Baby Dies from Drug- A baby in Bellaire passed away because they accidentally took drugs, shared Sheriff David Lucas of Belmont County on Wednesday.
Man Charged: Baby Dies from Drug Exposure
On April 24, Cameron Javon Cothran, 38, took his 1-year-old daughter to the emergency room at East Ohio Regional Hospital. After dropping her off, he left.
“Lucas said the baby had fentanyl in their system.”
Lucas said the child was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Pittsburgh but sadly passed away. He mentioned that authorities don’t know where Cothran went after leaving the baby, but he eventually came back to EORH.
Reports say that Cothran lives in Cleveland and used to live in Bellaire while raising a child by himself. The child’s mother is in jail.
Cothran was charged with involuntary manslaughter by a grand jury in Belmont County on Wednesday. He’s presently detained at Belmont County Jail.

“Lucas said on Thursday that last Wednesday, when it happened, his detectives got assistance from Martins Ferry, Bridgeport, Bellaire, and Wheeling PD. At first, he got arrested for many charges, but yesterday he got officially charged.”
Lucas mentioned that this is the third time a child has taken too much medicine this year, but sadly, it’s the first time a child has died from it.
“Lucas said, ‘He’s from Cleveland. We busted some drug dealers last night, and one of them was from Cleveland. When we catch one from there, it usually means more will show up.'”
The sheriff’s office says Cothran faces multiple charges including driving while drunk, endangering children, having drugs, trying to hide evidence, and having a drug called fentanyl. He’s in jail without bail.
The local prosecutor, Kevin Flaagan, said that Cothran is set to go to court on May 9th, but that might change.
“We’ve got the case, took it to the grand jury in Belmont County,” Flanagan explained. “They looked it over and decided to formally charge the person. Now, we’re getting ready for the trial.”
