Women’s NCAA Basketball Championship Leads Men’s in TV Viewers

For the first time ever, more people watched the NCAA women’s basketball championship than the men’s.

UConn’s win against Purdue on Monday night had around 14.82 million viewers, while South Carolina’s victory over Iowa on Sunday afternoon had more, with about 18.87 million viewers.

On Monday night, more people watched the game compared to last year’s final between the Huskies and San Diego State on CBS. However, the audience probably decreased during the second half when UConn dominated. This win made UConn the first team since Florida in 2007 to win the championship two years in a row.

The Iowa versus UConn game had about 14.2 million viewers, and overall, both women’s games had about 10.8 million viewers.

The men’s tournament had 67 games shown on CBS, TBS, TNT, and truTV. On average, these games had 9.9 million viewers, which is 3% more than last year. This year, popular teams and big conferences did well in the first weekend, which helped make the tournament more exciting.
