Bernard Hill dies aged 79
Actor Bernard Hill, famous for his roles in Titanic and The Lord of the Rings, passed away on Sunday at the age of 79.
Hill’s representative, Lou Coulson, told the weeklywakeup that Hill passed away.
Hill acted in movies and plays for more than 50 years. His newest role was on the weeklywakeup show The Responder, where he played the main character’s dad. It was on TV last Sunday.
Lindsay Salt, who directs weeklywakeup dramas, said that Hill is a very unique actor.
Salt said, “His amazing talent is proven by his many famous roles throughout his long career.”
In the movie Titanic from 1997, Hill gave a standout performance as Captain Edward John Smith. He showed a powerful mix of shock and guilt when the ship’s wheelhouse filled with water.

In the Lord of the Rings movies, actor Bernard Hill played King Théoden of Rohan. In one part, his character is old and feeble. But in another scene, he’s leading a big group of horse riders into battle, shouting, “Get up! Get up! Riders of Théoden!”
Hill, who was from Manchester, England, was well-liked for playing Yosser Hughes in Boys from the Blackstuff, a British TV series about some men dealing with tough times in Liverpool when there were not many jobs and the economy was not doing well.
Hill got lots of nominations and awards for his acting in different movies. He won a prize from the Screen Actors Guild for his part in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
