Real-Time Data in ChatGPT

Real-Time Data in ChatGPT Announc On Monday, OpenAI might say they’re adding fresh information to ChatGPT in English, French, and Spanish. This info will come from up-to-the-minute sources, with links to where it came from.

Sam Altman, the boss of OpenAI, said there won’t be a new search engine announced today, May 13. People thought there might be because of some deals OpenAI made recently. They thought OpenAI might announce that ChatGPT can now show news in English, Spanish, and French as they happen, with links to the original articles. But it’s not happening today.

No OpenAI Search in Sight

Lots of search engines have tried to beat Google, but none have succeeded. Now, new search engines using a mix of AI are trying, but they’re not doing very well.

Sam Altman once said that trying to beat Google with just another search engine isn’t a good idea. He thinks it’s better to come up with a whole new way of searching, something that disrupts the current system. So, the idea that he might suddenly announce a new search engine doesn’t really add up, considering he’s been pretty clear about why that wouldn’t work.

So, it’s not a surprise that he recently said he won’t be revealing a search engine on Monday, which clears up any speculation.

Possible Updates: Making Things Better Step by Step

They might announce something that’s iterative, meaning it improves ChatGPT without replacing it. This aligns with Altman’s recent approach with ChatGPT.

Sam Altman likes to make small changes to ChatGPT bit by bit to make it better. Some hints suggest what those changes might be.

Clues in Recent Deals

Since December 2023, OpenAI has been making agreements with news outlets and platforms where users share content. These deals involve OpenAI getting permission to use content for training its language models. However, what many news reports missed is that these agreements also grant OpenAI access to live information. OpenAI plans to use this real-time data to properly credit it with links.

Soon, people using ChatGPT will be able to use the latest news in their conversations and come up with creative ideas using that information.

Dotdash Partners with Meredith

Dotdash Meredith, known as DDM, is the company behind famous magazines like Better Homes & Gardens, FOOD & WINE, InStyle, Investopedia, and People. They made a deal that’s more than just using their content for training ChatGPT. The deal means you’ll see Dotdash Meredith content directly in ChatGPT.

OpenAI might start showing stuff from other companies directly in ChatGPT responses, which is getting people thinking it’s true.

OpenAI explained:

“We’re excited to team up with Dotdash Meredith to bring their trusted brands to ChatGPT and find new ways to improve publishing and marketing.”

As part of this deal, DDM also benefits from OpenAI’s help to improve their own ad targeting. This means they can show ads that match users’ interests more accurately.

Deals with Le Monde and Prisa Media

In March 2024, OpenAI made an important deal with two big media companies: Le Monde and Prisa Media. Le Monde is a French news outlet, and Prisa Media is a company that operates in Spanish-speaking countries. This deal means OpenAI can now get up-to-date information in French and Spanish languages.

Prisa Media is a big company from Spain that makes magazines, newspapers, podcasts, radio shows, and TV channels in Spanish. They’re popular in Spain and many countries in the Americas. They have a lot of news and a huge number of people follow them.

OpenAI clearly said they made this deal to give ChatGPT users direct access to this content.

That agreement isn’t just about providing training data. It’s about giving ChatGPT users access to the latest news and information.

In our April 30th article, we mentioned that OpenAI plans to include links in ChatGPT. These links will lead to content from other websites.

OpenAI talked about why Le Monde and Prisa Media are teaming up.

Other agreements, like the one with The Financial Times, emphasize that this deal will bring a new ChatGPT feature. This feature will let users engage with live news and what’s happening right now.

Big News from OpenAI Coming Monday, May 13

It seems likely that on Monday, ChatGPT users will be able to engage with news about what’s happening right now. This might be because of recent deals with news companies. There could be other new features announced too, but this part seems to be strongly hinted at.
