S24 Ultra Release: Is It Time for S23 Ultra Users to Upgrade?
The upgrades to the hardware of the new Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra can be counted on the fingers, and they do not significantly change the user experience compared to the 2023 S23 Ultra. If you already have last year’s premium phone, the primary reason to consider upgrading would be to get immediate access to generic AI features or if you’re looking for new functionalities.
As mentioned earlier, the Galaxy AI features found on the S24 Ultra should be added to the S23 Ultra in the future. However, it is not clear when this will happen. Even though Samsung has assured that all the generative AI features from the S24 Ultra will be brought to the S23 Ultra, there is some uncertainty about whether the older premium phone can handle these new capabilities.
In October, Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the first chipset with built-in generative AI. The S24 Ultra uses this chip to handle its generative AI features. The S23 Ultra may require greater reliance on the cloud for some Galaxy AI features, or it’s possible that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in the S23 Ultra may not be able to support on-device Generator AI when it launches in late 2022 Could. These features may not be ready at the time of the chipset’s release.
The decision to upgrade from the S23 Ultra to the new S24 Ultra depends on the importance you give to generative AI features. It’s important to mention that we haven’t had a chance to fully test Galaxy AI ourselves, so we can’t yet make a final judgment on how useful it is. Once we have a full review, we’ll have a better idea of whether the S24 Ultra offers a better experience than the S23 Ultra.
