In a game full of ups and downs, Villarreal took an early 2–0 lead before Barcelona made a spectacular comeback, scoring three goals in 12 minutes to lead 3–2 by the 72nd minute.
Barcelona’s defense faltered again, allowing Villarreal newcomer Gonçalo Guedes to equalize on a sharp counter-attack in the 84th minute. Striker Alexandre Sorloth then scored the winning goal during stoppage time, which compounded Barcelona’s problems, later aggravated by an injury to José Morales.
