Almeria vs Real Madrid: Dramatic 3-2 Victory
Real Madrid came back 3-2 in a thrilling LaLiga match against Almeria thanks to a goal from Dani Carvajal in the ninth minute of extra time. This game was full of VAR controversies.
Real now top the LaLiga standings with 51 points, two points ahead of Verona. Verona will host Sevilla later on Sunday.
AlmerÃa, which has not won any of its 21 LaLiga games this season, raced into a 2-0 lead early on. Largi Ramazani scored in the first minute and Edgar Gonzalez fired a superb long-range volley. The first half was difficult for Real Madrid and they could not manage to get even a single shot on target.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti looked quite disappointed. Instead of going to the changing room with his players during halftime, he made three changes at the start of the second half. This helped his team to play better.
Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham worked hard and Real Madrid reduced the gap in the 56th minute. Bellingham awarded a penalty after a lengthy VAR investigation for a suspected handball.
But AlmerÃa’s effort by Sergio Arribas on the counter-attack was quickly ruled out after a lengthy VAR review.
Referee Francisco Maceo ruled that the game had a problem when Almeria midfielder Dion Lopi was wrongly adjudged to have fouled Bellingham. This happened when Lopi accidentally hit the ball in Bellingham’s face while trying to regain his balance.
Five minutes later, Maceo initially ruled out Real Madrid’s equalizer, thinking it was a handball by VinÃcius Júnior. However, after another review with VAR, he ultimately allowed the goal, determining that it was off the shoulder. Almeria players and manager Asier Garitano were very disappointed by this decision.
Bellingham tried to score, but the referee ruled it was offside and it did not count. He then almost scored again with a cool scissor kick, but missed the target. This happened at the end of the game when Real Madrid tried to make a comeback.
After playing nine additional minutes, some close calls, and manager Garitano receiving a red card for arguing with the referee, Bellingham made a brilliant move into the busy area. He played a pass to Carvajal, who easily scored the winning goal at the far post.
“Today someone stole from us,” Almeria’s Gonzalo Melero said, speaking to DAZN.
“I hate to admit it, but there’s no other way to say it. And it’s not the first time this year. What happened today was just too much, it was unbelievable.”

“They tried everything they could to win the game, but it wasn’t enough.”
“Carvajal stated, ‘If Melero observes the play calmly, he will notice that the referee made the correct decision.'”
“At the halftime break, I reminded my team that anything was possible until the final minute, and indeed it was! A huge shoutout to our fans who elevated us to the skies.”
