Why Isn’t Obama Endorsing Kamala Harris Yet?
Bill and Hillary Clinton immediately showed their support for the vice president.
Other names that were once suggested as possible replacements for Mr Biden are now endorsing him – Governors Gavin Newsom and Josh Shapiro.
One name that was conspicuously missing from the cheerleading list was President Barack Obama.
A statement from Obama’s office praised Mr Biden but did not mention Ms Harris.
“We will face new and unfamiliar challenges in the days ahead.”
“But I am confident that our party’s leaders will come together with a process that will produce an excellent nominee.”
“At the Democratic Convention in August, Joe Biden’s vision of a compassionate, successful, and united America that offers opportunities for all will be clearly demonstrated.”
This could be seen as inviting an open contest rather than just a direct appointment.

Wouldn’t the man who made history as America’s first black president want his party to achieve something new and unprecedented again?
If Ms Harris wins the nomination and the election, she will be the first woman to become president of the United States.
“Just as he did in 2020, once Joe Biden gets the nomination, President Obama feels he will be in a great position to help bring the party together,” a source close to Barack Obama said.
In 2020, Mr Obama did not endorse Mr Biden until Senator Bernie Sanders dropped out of the race.
There appears to be no real basis for the idea that he is backing down, hoping his wife Michelle wins the nomination.
Even though polls suggest she may be the only Democrat who can beat Donald Trump, the former first lady has consistently said she has no interest in running for president.
