Vontae Davis, age 35, passes away
Former Miami Dolphins football player Vontae Davis was discovered dead on Monday morning in a house in Southwest Ranches.
Vladimir Moise, who was a close friend and business partner of Davis, confirmed that Davis has passed away.
The home on SW 178th Avenue belongs to Adaline Davis, who is the grandmother of a former Miami Dolphins cornerback, as per Broward property records.
Investigators from Davie police stated that they do not suspect any foul play.
Chester Frazier, Davis’ former coach, also confirmed his passing on X, previously known as Twitter.
During a Zoom news conference on Monday, Fighting Illini’s head football coach Bret Bielema mentioned that although he didn’t directly coach Davis, he did face him as an assistant coach in the NFL.
Bielema described Davis as highly cherished during his time at Illinois, highlighting his deep passion and intense commitment to the game.

Vontae Davis- Bielema commented, “I witnessed a highly skilled player with all the attributes.”. I knew he’d be great, not just in college, but also in the NFL.”
The Dolphins chose Davis in the opening round of the 2009 NFL Draft. However, they traded him to the Indianapolis Colts during training in 2012.
Davis gained notoriety for retiring mid-game in 2018 while playing for the Buffalo Bills against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Davis, who spent ten seasons playing for different teams, was 35 years old.
The cause of death hasn’t been disclosed yet, pending an autopsy.
