Technical Glitch Disrupts Facebook, Instagram
UPDATE 11:43 a.m.: Technical Glitch Several users have reported regaining access to Facebook and Messenger, though connectivity is still inconsistent. However, Instagram and Threads continue to experience problems.
On Tuesday morning, for a period, it appeared as though the entire internet was captivated by a single pressing inquiry: Has Facebook gone offline?
The whole Metaverse was.
According to Andy Stone, the communications head of Meta, a technical problem caused major disruptions for several leading technology companies’ websites. He shared this information in a post on X. Reports of Facebook experiencing issues surged to over half a million, as recorded by the outage tracking website DownDetector, between 10 and 11 a.m. Affected users reported being forcibly logged out and facing difficulties logging back in.
Issues of a similar nature were also encountered across other platforms under Meta, including Instagram, Messenger, and Threads. Additionally, users of Meta Quest headsets experienced disruptions, being unexpectedly logged out, according to 9to5Mac.com. Separately, YouTube, which is not affiliated with Meta, experienced downtime concurrently. However, some individuals reported that accessing YouTube through their Google accounts allowed them to bypass the issue.
By midday, reports emerged first of Facebook and subsequently other services being restored.

If you found yourself logged out of Faceboook, don’t worry. Your password hasn’t been compromised, and there’s no need to reset it. The issue stems from a service outage at Meta, Facebook’s parent company, which also affected other sites under Meta’s umbrella.

On Tuesday morning, for a period of a couple of hours, some users were able to use the Instagram app, although they encountered issues loading specific feeds, and the desktop version was completely inaccessible. The highest number of reported outages reached 85,020 at 10:33 a.m. Eastern Time.

At approximately 11 a.m. on X, formerly known as Twitter, Stone addressed the outage, stating, “We’re aware of the difficulties users are experiencing in accessing our services.”
By noon, service was restored to Face-book, and subsequently to other Meta services, just in time for users to engage in discussions about their state’s presidential primaries on this Super Tuesday.
We're aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.

Later tonight, Sonte stated that “an issue of technical nature resulted in some users experiencing difficulty accessing certain services.”
Less than a fortnight following a nationwide outage experienced by AT&T customers, Tuesday’s disruption has impacted Meta services. The day after the incident, the company attributed the outage to a technical error stemming from “the application and execution of an incorrect process during network expansion.” Affected customers were offered a $5 credit as compensation.
Earlier today, a technical issue caused people to have difficulty accessing some of our services. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted, and we apologize for any inconvenience. https://t.co/ybyyAZNAMn
