Co-Stars and Fans Mourn Beloved Actor Johnny Wactor

Johnny Wactor, an actor best known for his role on the long-running soap opera “General Hospital,” was tragically killed during an attempted robbery on Thursday night. He was 39 years old. Police reports indicate Wactor was shot multiple times outside his residence in Los Angeles around 8pm.

The horrific incident has left his family, friends, co-workers and fans in utter shock and mourning. Wactor had played Brando Corbin on the ABC daytime drama “General Hospital” since 2020. His character quickly became a fan favorite. News of the popular actor’s violent death at such a young age has devastated the soap opera community.

“We are incredibly saddened and heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved Johnny,” said a statement released by the “General Hospital” cast and crew. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones. He will be greatly missed.”

According to police reports, Wactor had arrived home late Thursday evening when he was ambushed during an attempted robbery as he exited his vehicle. Multiple shots were fired, striking Wactor at least twice in the chest and once in the shoulder. Wactor was rushed by ambulance to a nearby hospital but died shortly after arrival from his injuries.

Police confirmed a suspect fled the scene on foot immediately after the shooting. No arrests have been made yet but an investigation is still ongoing. Robbery is considered the likely motive based on witness statements that the suspect demanded Wactor’s wallet and other personal belongings. However, police have not ruled out any other potential motives at this time.

“We are exploring all possibilities and working diligently to apprehend this reprehensible criminal as soon as possible,” said Los Angeles Police Chief Derrick Johnson during a press conference Saturday morning. “Our condolences go out to Mr. Wactor’s family and loved ones during this unimaginable tragedy.”

Wactor was born in Missouri but moved to Los Angeles at age 18 to pursue an acting career. After a few smaller roles in television shows and movies, he had his big break in 2020. That year he was cast as one of the newest mobster characters on “General Hospital,” the longest-running American soap opera still in production.

On the show, his character Brando Corbin is a tough but charismatic enforcer for the powerful Corinthos crime family. Brando soon emerged as a fan-favorite character. His on-screen romances, family turmoil, and intense rivalry with fellow mobster Sonny Corinthos became hugely popular storylines.

Within two years, Wactor had established himself as a rising star and soap opera leading man. He routinely received thousands of messages on social media from admirers praising his acting range and good looks. Co-stars marveled at his professionalism and dedication to his craft.

“Johnny was so incredibly talented and had such a bright future ahead,” said longtime “General Hospital” star Maurice Benard, who played Sonny Corinthos. “But more importantly, he was a genuinely wonderful human being who brightened every room he entered. I’m devastated for his family and all who knew him.”

News of the tragedy prompted an outpouring of grief, shock, and condolences across the entertainment industry and soap opera fan community. Magazines rushed to publish commemorative covers celebrating Wactor’s life and career. His final scenes as Brando aired just this past week on “General Hospital.”

Fans quickly created memorials outside the studio lot where “General Hospital” is filmed. An online petition emerged demanding ABC name a character or set after Wactor to honor him permanently. The studio is reportedly considering how best to write the Brando Corbin character off the show.

Away from acting, Wactor was an avid sports fan and outdoorsman who loved hiking and camping. He actively supported animal rescue organizations and would regularly appear at fan events and charity functions for “General Hospital.”

By many accounts, the charismatic young actor seemed to have his entire life and promising career ahead of him before this senseless act of violence. Those closest to Wactor remain stunned that he was stolen from them in such a cruel and tragic way.

“My brother lived his dream and became a shining star on our favorite show,” said his sister Ashley Wactor in an emotional social media post. “That light has been cruelly extinguished far too soon under the most horrible circumstances imaginable. We’ll miss him forever.”

While police continue their investigation, a memorial service is being planned to allow Wactor’s loved ones, colleagues, and fans to come together and grieve. The sad reality remains that a tremendously gifted actor and beloved individual has been suddenly taken too early by a senseless criminal act.
