Iranian President Dies
Iranian President Dies- Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, along with the country’s foreign minister and other officials, were reported dead in a helicopter crash, according to Iranian state media on Monday.
After Raisi passed away, the Iranian government had a quick meeting. Then, Iran’s top leader, Ali Khamenei, chose Mohammad Mokhber, the First Vice President, to be the temporary president. Khamenei also said Iran would mourn for five days.
The crash in Iran happened, and now they’re missing two really important diplomats. This happened at a time when tensions are already really high because of the fighting between Israel and Hamas.
Iran’s government-controlled media reported on Monday that Raisi, Iran’s leader, has died. They also said that Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, the governor of East Azerbaijan province, and other officials were killed in a helicopter crash.
The helicopter carrying the group crashed in a mountainous area in northern Iran while they were coming back from an event near the border with Azerbaijan. State media showed pictures of the wreckage but didn’t say what caused the crash. The weather was foggy at the time.
Iran’s neighbors, like Pakistan, are saddened by the news. Pakistan’s government will have a day of mourning. In Russia, President Vladimir Putin expressed his sympathy to Khamenei, as reported by Russian state media.

Intense Search for Helicopter by Rescue Teams
Earlier, IRNA said that the head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society confirmed that search teams found Raisi’s helicopter.
Iran’s Interior Minister, Ahmad Vahidi, reported that the president’s helicopter had a rough landing on Sunday. He also mentioned that a search-and-rescue mission is currently in progress, as per IRNA.
IRNA said that two people on the plane talked to rescuers. They sent twenty rescue teams with drones and dogs to help. The Iranian military also sent soldiers to assist in the rescue.
The Fars News Agency shared a video showing rescue teams going to the area. Before that, the Iranian government’s X account posted a picture of Raisi sitting with Azerbaijan’s president, Ilham Aliyev, at the opening of a dam on the border between their countries.
Raisi, a Relative Hard-liner, Elected in 2021
Raisi used to be a religious leader and a judge. He became president in 2021.
When Raisi started his job, he promised that Iran would still follow the nuclear deal with the U.S., even though Donald Trump had pulled out of it in 2018.
Raisi is seen as stricter than Rouhani, who was Iran’s president before him.
Last month, Raisi celebrated Iran attacking Israel after an airstrike in Damascus killed seven members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard. Iran said Israel did it, but Israel never admitted to it. Israel and its friends said they stopped almost all of the missiles and drones Iran sent during the attack.
In Iran, the president runs the government, but the real boss is Khamenei, who’s called the supreme leader.
In Iran, the top leader makes the rules for the country and makes sure they are followed. They also control the Revolutionary Guard and the police.
In Iran, if the president passes away while serving, the first vice president steps in with the supreme leader’s agreement. Then, a new election has to happen within 50 days.
