Hemant Soren Returns as Jharkhand CM After 5-Month Absence
Hemant Soren took oath as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand. This happened just a day after Champai Soren stepped down from the post. The event took place at the Raj Bhavan in Ranchi, the state capital. Hemant Soren is the leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) party. He has been the Chief Minister before.
However, due to legal issues, he had to leave his post in January. Now after five months, he is in power again. Before taking the oath, Hemant Soren spoke to the people. He said, “Today is July 4. On January 31, I told you how the opposition tried to go against me. They also succeeded for some time. For five months they tried to keep me in jail. But we followed the law and the people supported us.” Hemant Soren’s road to return was not easy.
On Wednesday, he met Governor CP Radhakrishnan. He told the Governor that he wanted to form the government. This meeting took place just after Champai Soren stepped down from the post of Chief Minister. Champai Soren explained why he left the post. He said, “A few days ago I became the Chief Minister. I got the job of running the state. But when Hemant Soren returned, our alliance decided. We chose Hemant Soren as our leader.
So I have resigned from the post of Chief Minister.” Hemant Soren is happy with his return. He wrote on social media, “Thank you Governor. The conspiracy against democracy by the opposition is now ending. Truth has won.” The story of Hemant Soren’s absence is important. He had to leave his job on February 2. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested him. They said that he was involved in a case of money laundering. This case was related to a land scam.
Soren spent five months in jail. On June 28, the Jharkhand High Court granted him bail. His lawyer said, “The court feels that he is not guilty. They do not think that he will do anything wrong after coming out of jail.” Hemant Soren is 48 years old. His return as Chief Minister will help his party JMM. In the recently held Lok Sabha elections, JMM won three seats in Jharkhand.

Many tribal people live in this state. JMM has performed well in Jharkhand. In 2019, he won the state election. He worked together with two other parties – Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
