Heavy Rain in Maharashtra Disrupts Traffic and Flights, More Showers Expected
Due to heavy rains in many parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai and the coastal Konkan region, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday directed officials to remain on high alert.
Shinde said the State Disaster Response Force, local administration, civic bodies, and police should regularly check weather updates from the Indian Meteorological Department and plan accordingly to help citizens.
He said surveys should be carried out in accident-prone areas, flood control methods should be used and traffic should be diverted when required.
The Chief Minister said the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) should regularly share updates with citizens.
Meanwhile, a video from the Andheri subway showed severe waterlogging, leading to road blockages.
He directed officials to keep adequate food, medicine, and relief materials. Additionally, he stressed the need to set up temporary shelters for both people and animals.
Mumbai Police said in a post, “In view of the incessant and heavy rains in Mumbai, citizens are requested to avoid visiting coastal areas and step out of their homes only when absolutely necessary.”

“Vistara has announced that flight UK696 from Amritsar to Mumbai (ATQ-BOM) has been diverted to Ahmedabad (AMD) due to bad weather at Mumbai airport. The flight is now expected to land in Ahmedabad (AMD) at 12:15 pm.”
WEATHER FORECAST
According to the weather department forecast, heavy rains are expected in many parts of India due to the formation of a low-pressure area over the interior of Odisha and adjoining areas of Chhattisgarh.
The upcoming weather change is likely to affect many areas including western Madhya Pradesh, eastern Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, south-eastern Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh in the coming days.
The weather department has warned that residents and local authorities should prepare for potentially severe weather events.
Extremely heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over western Madhya Pradesh from July 21 to 23. Similar weather conditions are expected over eastern Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha on July 21.
The Meteorological Department has warned that heavy rains may cause local flooding, waterlogging, and disruption of transport and daily activities.
