A big earthquake shake just happened in New Jersey. It shook buildings in New York City and nearby areas.

The United States Geological Survey reported that a 4.8 magnitude earthquake happened near Lebanon, New Jersey.
A meeting about Gaza at the UN Security Council in New York stopped for a bit because of an earthquake.
“Did you feel that shaking?” While she was speaking, Janti Soeripto, a representative from Save the Children, was questioned.
The earthquake happened at about 10:20 in the morning local time (3:20 in the afternoon GMT). Luckily, there aren’t any big reports of damage.
The buildings in Brooklyn and the Bronx shook, making cupboard doors and fixtures rattle.
Charita Walcott, who lives in the Bronx and is 38 years old, described the earthquake as a strong shaking that lasted for about 30 seconds.
“It felt like being in a drum circle, with that strong vibration,” she explained.
“While I lay in bed, the entire apartment complex began to tremble suddenly. I got really scared,” said another person living in New York, speaking to CBS, a news partner of the weeklywakeupin the US.

Fabien Levy from the New York Mayor’s office and New York state governor Kathy Hochul said they were checking how much the shaking from the tremors affected things.
People on social media said they felt the earthquake from Philadelphia to the east coast.
Earthquakes have happened on the East Coast and in New York City before, but they don’t happen often.
In 1884, New York City had an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0 on the scale used to measure earthquakes.
The Ramapo Fault goes from the Appalachian Mountains through New Jersey. There are also at least five smaller fault lines under Manhattan Island.
