Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Sent to Jail for 14 Days
On Saturday, June 29, 2024, a Delhi court made a big decision. They sent Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, to jail for 14 days. This is called judicial custody. He will stay in jail until July 12.
Kejriwal was arrested on June 26 by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The CBI is a big government agency that looks into important cases. They arrested Kejriwal because of something called the excise policy case.
What is the excise policy case? It’s about the rules for selling alcohol in Delhi. The CBI thinks there were some wrong things done when these rules were made in 2021-2022. They believe Kejriwal might know something about it.
Before this, Kejriwal was already in trouble with another agency called the Enforcement Directorate (ED). They think he might have done something wrong with money. This is related to the same alcohol policy case.
When Kejriwal was brought to court, the CBI said they needed more time with him. They wanted to ask him more questions. The CBI told the judge that Kejriwal didn’t help them much in the last three days. They said he gave answers that weren’t clear.
The CBI is worried about a few things. They think Kejriwal might know why some alcohol sellers were allowed to make more money. They also want to know why the new alcohol rules were made so quickly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Another thing the CBI is curious about is some meetings. They think Kejriwal’s friend, Vijay Nair, met with people who sell alcohol. They want to know if Kejriwal knows anything about these meetings.
The CBI also mentioned some other people. They asked Kejriwal about meetings with Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy, Arjun Pandey, and Mootha Gautham. These people are also part of the case.
The CBI is worried that Kejriwal might use his power to change things. They think he might talk to people who know about the case and tell them to say different things. This is why they wanted him to stay in jail.
Kejriwal and his political party, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), say they didn’t do anything wrong. They think the government is just trying to cause trouble for them. They say the case is not real and is just to bother them.
This case has been going on for a while now. It started with the ED arresting Kejriwal on March 21. The ED thinks Kejriwal and his party used money from alcohol sellers to help them in elections in Goa, another state in India.

Many people are watching this case closely. It’s not often that a chief minister, who is an important leader, gets arrested. Some people support Kejriwal and think he’s being treated unfairly. Others believe the CBI and ED are doing the right thing by investigating.
The case is complicated and involves many people. It’s about rules for selling alcohol, but also about politics and power. As Kejriwal stays in jail, his party and the city of Delhi will have to manage without him.
This situation shows how serious the government agencies are about this case. They are willing to arrest and keep in jail one of the most important politicians in India. It also shows how complex politics can be in India.
As the case goes on, more information might come out. For now, Arvind Kejriwal will stay in jail until July 12. After that, the court will decide what to do next.
