Attention Apple enthusiasts! The 35th edition of the annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024.

The WWDC will run from Monday, June 10 through Friday, June 14 and it will completely focus on software updates.

Although there won’t be any hardware announcements from the Cupertino-based tech giant, Apple will introduce some significant changes.

So, here are the things that we can expect from Apple at the WWDC 2024 and what the company won’t mention this year.

1. iOS 18 with AI Integration

The California-based tech giant Apple is going to announce the iOS 18 which reportedly will be the “most significant update to iPhone ever”.

The software update will heavily bank on artificial intelligence (AI). It will include AI-backed photo retouching, transcription of voice memos, smart recaps for notifications that you miss, and much more.

Moreover, Siri is going to receive a major overhaul with large language models that will enable the virtual assistant to have more natural conversations with users and better personalization. Other than that, the iOS 18 will bring custom emojis with AI integration, suggested replies in messages, and auto-generated playlists on Apple Music.

Lastly, the Home Screen will be more customizable with blank spaces between the app icons and users will be able to change their colors.

2. iPadOS 18 with Productivity and Creativity Enhancements

The iPadOS 18 will follow the same path as iOS 18 with AI-based features and customizable home screen. However, the software update will focus on boosting iPad’s productivity and creativity aspect.

The multitasking capabilities will improve along with file management and app organization. Moreover, the Notes and Photos apps will receive some interesting features.

Not to forget the iPadOS 18 will offer better Apple Pencil integration making the tablet a more competent device for personal as well as professional use.

3. macOS 15 with AI Integration

The macOS 15 is in the cards for Mac users. The next iteration of the operating system is likely to take all the AI-based features from iOS 18.

Expect AI-backed writing assistance in Pages, building slide decks in Keynote, and coding assistance in Xcode. All these AI integrations will make various workflows more efficient and easier for users. Furthermore, the macOS 15 will follow the tradition of Apple naming its OS versions after landmarks in California.

This means the macOS 15 might be named Redwood, Sequoia, or Mammoth. Lastly, the built-in apps such as Notes, Mail, Photos, and Fitness will receive updates and will be in parity with their iOS versions.

4. watchOS 11 with Health and Fitness Enhancements

For Apple Watch users, there is good news ahead! The tech giant Apple is going to announce watchOS 11 next week. The software update will introduce a plethora of new health and fitness-centric features.

Even though there are hardly any leaks about the upcoming watchOS, reports suggest that the Fitness app on the smartwatch will receive major updates.

It means users can expect new AI-backed metrics and customized workout plans. Moreover, the watchOS 11 could bring better sleep monitoring, stress management tools, and deeper health data insights. All these updates will continue to make Apple Watch a premier health monitoring and fitness tracking device.

5. visions 2 for AR/VR Ecosystem

Another major announcement from the WWDC 2024 will be the visionOS 2. The new version of the operating system will highlight Apple’s focus on augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR).

The software update is likely to bring new AR capabilities, better user interfaces, and performance enhancements for Apple Vision Pro headset. Moreover, developers will get more frameworks and tools to build native AR/VR experiences. In essence, the visionOS 2 will further expand the horizon of possibilities with AR/VR and will make it easy for developers to incorporate these technologies in their apps.

Lots of AI Integration

AI is going to be the talk of the town during the WWDC 2024. Looking at the Samsung Galaxy S24 and Google I/O trends, Apple is likely to heavily bank on AI for its software platforms.

The AI work from Apple will not be limited to any particular operating system but will spread across its ecosystem. For instance, Final Cut Pro could get smart editing tools based on AI, FaceTime calls will get auto-summarizations, and instant agendas on meetings or holiday bookings.

Moreover, the generative AI capabilities will assist photo editors and help in smart code testing for bugs.

Smarter Siri

Siri is going to receive a major AI integration. There are even rumors that the Siri will receive assistance from ChatGPT. The upgrade will improve Siri’s natural language understanding, search functions, and access to a multimodal AI model.

The virtual assistant will easily get through compound sentences and provide more responsive answers. Hopefully, the upgrade will help Siri to reclaim its throne as a top-notch virtual assistant.

What Apple Will Skip: New Hardware Announcements

Apple will go all-software this year and will not announce any hardware. Mark Gurman, a Bloomberg reporter, today said that the Cupertino-based tech giant does not “plan to announce any new devices at this week’s event”.

This means the launch of some previously rumored devices including the next-generation Apple TV with a faster processor and lower price tag is not going to happen.

Attendees and viewers can look forward to Apple’s latest software including iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS 15, watchOS 11, and visionOS 2. However, there will be no new hardware to show off at the keynote event of WWDC 2024.

Conclusion

It’s going to be an exciting WWDC 2024 with some major software announcements. Apple is going to announce iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS 15, watchOS 11, and visionOS 2.

These software updates will introduce some major changes to Apple’s product lineup focusing on AI-backed features and better user experiences. But don’t expect any new hardware announcements this year. Apple will save those surprises for a later date. So, stay tuned for more coverage on the WWDC 2024.
