5 tips to maximize the battery life of an iPhone

Are you finding that your iPhone battery drains quickly or isn’t holding a charge like it used to? It could be because you’re not giving your iPhone the care it needs. Apple suggests that by taking care of your iPhone’s battery health and lifespan, you can improve its overall battery life.

Sure thing! “Battery life” means how long your device stays on before needing a recharge, while “battery lifespan” is how long the battery lasts before needing to be replaced. To help you make the most of your iPhone’s battery, here are five simple tips from Apple.

1. Make sure your iPhone stays updated: It’s crucial to keep your iPhone’s software up to date with the latest iOS version. These updates not only introduce new features but also contain important fixes that can affect your battery life. By regularly updating your iPhone, you can improve its battery performance and overall efficiency. Apple advises users to regularly update their iPhone’s software to enjoy the latest improvements. Keep your iPhone cool:

2. Keep your iPhone cool: Apple-made iPhones work best when it’s not too hot or too cold. They say iPhones like temperatures between 16° and 22°C (62° to 72°F). If it gets hotter than 35°C (95°F), it could damage the battery and make it hold less charge over time. If it’s really cold, the battery might not last as long temporarily, but it’ll be fine once it warms up. So, try to keep your iPhone in that comfy temperature range to keep its battery healthy.

3. Take off the case when charging: Certain iPhone cases can trap heat while your phone is charging, which might harm your battery over time. If you feel your device getting warm during charging, Apple suggests removing it from its case. This helps the heat to escape more easily, keeping your battery healthier and lasting longer.

4. Keep your iPhone at half battery when not using it for a while: If you’re putting your iPhone away for a long time, like on vacation or as a backup, make sure the battery’s about halfway charged before turning it off. Storing it with a full or empty battery can hurt its lifespan and cause it to lose charge. Also, keep it in a cool, dry place below 90°F (32°C) to protect the battery. And if you’re not using your iPhone for more than six months, remember to charge it back up to 50% every six months.

5. Use Low Power Mode: iPhones have a feature called Low Power Mode, introduced with iOS 9. It helps your battery last longer and keeps your phone running smoothly by dimming the screen, reducing fancy animations, and pausing some tasks that use up battery in the background. Low Power Mode kicks in automatically when your battery is at 20% or 10%, or you can turn it on yourself in Settings > Battery. Just remember, when Low Power Mode is on, some things like checking your email and syncing with iCloud might not happen right away to save battery.
