Global Outages Hit Social Media Application X and X Pro
In a widespread disruption that sent shockwaves across the digital realm, social media application X, formerly known as Twitter, and its professional counterpart, X Pro, formerly TweetDeck, experienced a global outage on Thursday. This unexpected incident, meticulously tracked by outage monitoring website Downdetector.com, revealed a substantial surge in reports from users worldwide.
For users logging into X Application, an unusual message greeted them on their feeds: “Welcome to X! This is the best place to see what’s happening in your world. Find some people and topics to follow now.” Simultaneously, X Pro users encountered loading issues with a frustrating message that simply stated, “Waiting for posts.”

Downdetector data highlighted the extent of the disruption, with over 47,000 users in the United States alone facing difficulties accessing both X and X Pro. As reports flooded in from disgruntled users, one individual expressed their frustration, saying, “Anyone else having problems with Twitter? Glitches? Your own tweets and tweets of others not showing? I also had like hundreds of articles bookmarked to read later. All disappeared.”
This recent outage is not an isolated event for X Application. The Application has grappled with multiple disruptions since Elon Musk’s takeover and the subsequent mass layoff. Musk, the visionary entrepreneur, not only renamed the platform but also implemented significant changes to its content rules. However, these changes came at a cost, with X losing more than half of its advertising revenue.
Elon Musk’s ambitious plan to shift away from traditional advertising towards a model centered on paid subscriptions has faced considerable challenges. Recent reports from Bloomberg indicate that less than 1% of users have opted for the monthly premium service. This translates to an annual revenue of less than $120 million, significantly below expectations.
The platform’s journey under Musk’s leadership continues to be marked by technical challenges and strategic shifts. The decision to pivot away from the advertising-driven revenue model reflects Musk’s vision for a more sustainable and user-centric platform. However, the reality has proven more complex, with users expressing reluctance to embrace the subscription-based approach.
As X grapples with these challenges, the global outage serves as a stark reminder of the platform’s vulnerability in the face of technical disruptions. Whether Elon Musk’s leadership can navigate these challenges and steer X toward a more stable future remains uncertain. The intersection of technology, user expectations, and business strategy is a complex landscape that X must navigate to maintain its relevance in the ever-evolving world of social media.
